169 - Purple Haze

Another day, another marketplace! The Jacaranda Festival just sounded too pretty to miss and as it turns out that was right. I don't trek over the other side of the river very often but it was totally worth it. You guys know I'm a sucker for bright colours and pretty flowers, throw a decent sized marketplace in there and I'm a happy camper!

168 - Agapanthus and Arachnids

Funny that we went to the Jacaranda festival and I end up with my camera pointed down the petals of an agapanthus. But apparently I just can't resist a photo of a spider. Even when editing them gives me the full on creeps.
Speaking of spiders and things that will haunt my nightmares...
Sorry for the low quality shot - this giant hornet from hell was dragging the poor (and also quite large) spider by the face so fast that I didn't have time to get the right lens going. Why do I feel the need to photograph these things?!

167 - Twilight Twinkling Lights

A balmy summer evening, cute markets and twinkling Christmas lights. Good times! The Joondalup Twilight Markets are an annual event running every Friday night for the next 5 weeks. Compared to some of the ones coming up, they are quite small, but it's great to see so many people out and about in Joondalup, and it's nice to have one of these events so close to home. I actually managed to pick up some cute Christmas presents here (and some amazing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hair bows for me!!!) so it was a big win all round!

166 - Mary Street

I love when I go for a walk and stumble across unexpected prettiness. This is Mary Street in Highgate, known to me almost exclusively for the FABULOUS bakery located on the corner of Beaufort Street (previously seen here). I love this natural archway of trees (I'm big on archways...). On this warm sunny day with the leaves raining down with each puff of wind I couldn't resist pulling out the camera!

165 - Just a Few More...

This is my last post on the Beaufort Street Festival, I promise! (I already have some shots from different markets to post!) I think the big police heads by local artist Steve Berrick were my favourite part. You just don't get chased by big heads on wheels every day!

164 - Gloves and Googly Eyes

I love this time of the year - There are so many festivals and markets to wander around in the bright sunshine. For me, the Beaufort Street Festival always feels like the start of Summer (and at 42 degrees I'm pretty sure it did for everyone else too!! There are always some interesting quirky things to see as you mosey along... big googly eyes, weird moving sculptures... definitely my kinda event.

163 - Delectable Delights

I LOVE breakfast. Its my favourite. I go out for breakfast/brunch way more often than dinner. But very rarely do I get served up a meal that is this visually beautiful! On Sunday Mamma, Pappa and I got up early and trekked into Northbridge to check out Flora and Fauna, a very quaint little boutique cafe tucked away down a little side street. In high contrast to the sundae I devoured the day before, the food here is vegan/vegetarian and very healthy (not to mention super tasty!). I suspect it wasn't really Dad's cup of tea - although he was very good at not saying it out loud I could almost hear his brain ticking over... no full English breakfast?! Flowers in my food?! What the?! but I think even he enjoyed the super moist and banana bread. If, like Dad, your brekkie tastes lean toward the more traditional this may not be the place for you but for those who like something a little bit different it's definitely worth a try!

162 - Worth It.

The Beaufort Street Festival always seems to fall on one of the first really hot days of the summer, and this year was certainly no exception! But luckily Rochelle Adonis was there with delicious sundaes to help us cool off! And oh my was this salted caramel sundae tasty! I've been trying really hard to be healthy lately and this was NOT on the diet plan, but so totally worth it.

As we stood and ate our treats I spotted the above reflection across the street and something about the bright carnival colours in the window of a flower shop just really appealed to me! So today I'm linking in with Weekend Reflections (just before the weekend ends!!).

161 - Oobee Doo, I Wanna Be Like You-ou-ou

The Jazz Cellar is one of my favourite places to go for a night out in Perth. After entering via a red phone booth hidden around the back of the Salvos you go down the stairs to find this amazing little place full of mismatched tables and chairs and old vintage advertisements. For such a small place they really pack it full of eager jazz fans! As recently as last year in order to be lucky enough to get in you'd need to line up from 4pm to even have a chance of booking a spot. Thankfully they've finally set up internet bookings (although you still need to snap up tickets pretty quick-smart!).  The Corner House Jazz Band have played here every Friday night for the last 20 years (!!) with an energy that you can't help but get caught up in. Good thing dancing is encouraged! They even have their own dancing man who spends the whole night getting all the pretty young girls up to dance (bet he loves his job!).

160 - The Happiest 5km on the Planet!

The Colour Run really does live up to it's slogan - such a fun way to spend a morning in the sunshine.

150 - Boo at the Zoo!

I love Halloween. I think if I lived in America or something it'd be my favourite holiday. Unfortunately here in Perth its not really celebrated too widely - although this year I was pleased to see more Halloween stuff out in the shops so maybe its finally catching on? Really I just like any chance to play  dress-ups. :P This year when I heard about the Halloween event at the Perth Zoo I thought... a chance to dress up AND go to the zoo? Hells yeah! Of course... it was a kids event but luckily I had the worlds cutest little witch and skeleton to go with. With animal exhibits open late, trick or treat stops dotted around the place, a spooky disco and a haunted trail through the rain forest I think it's safe to say a good time was had by all!

158 - Back Again

Hi All! I went missing again... I'm sorry! Last week was an unusually social one for me and I just didn't get the time to get here. I had two very good friends that I don't get to see so often visiting last week (one from Canada and one from Canberra) and so it was like an explosion of doing things and eating all of the food.  The good news is my camera came with me so I'll have a few posts this week :) These shots were taken in the Careniup Swamp - I know I know - you guys have already seen this place enough on this blog but it's just so pretty and my friend had a new camera lens to play with... I just had to show it to her!
